Annual Report
2006
Dear Friends of Estonia!
“He loved your organization,“ wrote Melody Boyce referring to August Kollom in her donation in his memory. Mr. Kollom was a source of inspiration and support for several projects. He will be remembered and missed.
We are glad to learn that in addition to contributing to the Fund, donors get directly involved. Thus, Helle Kiiss took care of the 2006/2007 winter heating bill for the Tartu Christian Youth Home. Camilla and Leo Kuus remembered the Estonian National Museum in their bequest of three million Estonian kroons. We encourage direct contact between our donors and recipients of their beneficience.
Our cooperation with Direct Relief International, Inc. is now in its fourteenth year. Following a record shipment worth nearly $5 million in 2005, the 2006 consignment of medicines and nursing supplies was valued $358,146 wholesale.
We are also working closely with the Estonian Association of Junior Physicians and the Estonian Girl Guide and Boy Scout Foundation. as part of our mission to help develop civil society and nongovernmental organizations in Estonia. We continued to channel support according to the preferences expressed by our supporters.
We thank you for your interest and generosity.
Lugupeetud Eesti sõbrad ja toetajad!
Suur tänu heade soovide ja suuremeelse toetuse eest. Teie eelistused suunavad Fondi tegevust. Rakendasime toetused otstarbeliselt sajaprotsendiliselt, muud kulud kattis sissetulek investeeringutest.
Meie neljateistaastast koostööd hindas Direct Relief International kõrgelt, andes 2006. aastal Fondile tiitli “Ambassador of Health.” Fondi abi tervishoiu alal on tunnustanud Eesti Sotsiaalministeerium, Lastehaiglad nii Tallinnas kui ka Tartus, Tartu Ülikooli haiglad.
Täiendasime Tartu Ülikooli Raamatukogu rahvusvahelise õiguse teadusliku kirjanduse fondi, millele panime aluse 2003.a.
Nimelisi stipendiumifonde on Fondi haldusel kolm: Andreas ja Elmerice Traksi stipendium doktorantidele ja magistrantidele, Andres Jüriado mälestusstipendium, Harald Luningu mälestusstipendium arstiteaduse üliõpilastele. Möödunud aastal toetati üheksat taotlejat. Arstide ja hambaasrstide täiendõppe projektist said toetust neli arsti. Ülaltoodud stipendiumi kanditaatide eelvalik ja võistlus korraldatakse Eestis.
Jätkasime tänavalaste ja vanemlike hoolitsuseta laste probleemide lahendamise alal töötavate organisatsioonide toetamist.
Täname lahkeid toetajaid ja kaastöölisi!
Our health care project in cooperation with Direct Relief International, Inc. continued to provide substantial assistance to the chronically under- funded Estonian nursing homes, youth homes, and orphanages.
The Fund’s scholarship project attracted substantial support. For the third year in a row, the Andreas and Elmerice Traks fund received a substantial special grant. In 2006, five graduate students at Tartu University received a total of $10,000 in Traks stipends.
The Fund entered into an agreement with the Estonian Junior Physicians’ Association to provide $4000 annually to young physicians to pursue training in their specialties abroad. In 2006, three M.D.’s and one D.D.S. won the competitive stipends. The annual Luning scholarship was awarded to an outstanding medical student..
A special grant was awarded to Pearu Kuusk, whose M.A. thesis was published as a book by Tartu University.. He is continuing his studies toward a doctorate in history. The Fund also continued to support the studies of prize-winning pianist Hando Nahkur at the New England Conservatory of Music.
We continued to support the programs of the Bethel Pastoral Care, the Tartu Christian Youth Home, and the Foundation of Estonian Girl Guides and Boy Scouts that we helped establish.

annual report 2005
Dear Friends of Estonia!
Your support enabled us to move a mountain. Last year we levarged an $ 18, 000 expenditure to a $ 4,9 million worth of medicines and nursing supplies.
Thanks to cooperation with Direct Relief International, Inc., we have over the last 10 years shipped some $ 10 million worth of much needed supplies to nursing homes, infant`s homes and orphanages in Estonia.
We expect to shift more support to projects that are oriented toward young people, toward youth that need support to realize their life potential. Young men and women who have been reared in orphanages, who have defied the odds by graduating from high school and who have gained admission to a university, lack the means to pay tuition. As tuition is quite modest in Estonia, an investment in young scholars promises high returns.
We have channeled support to projects that help street children, and needy large families.
We welcome special grants to fund scholarships. And we seek to encourage fields of study that are presently underapperciated but very important to Estonia`s success in the international arena. One example is international law. We have provided Tartu Universitry with a basic library in this field.
We thank you for your suggestions and support.
Lugupeetud Eesti sõbrad ja toetajad!
Tänu teile said Eesti hooldeasutused 2005a. rekordilise ravimite ja põetusvahendite abi. Kaks konteinerit, väärtuses
$ 4,9 miljonit ( 60,000,000 Eesti krooni).
Direct Relief International`iga koos oleme kümne aasta jooksul hooldeasutustele saatnud $ 10 miljonit materiaalset abi.
Noored on Eesti tulevik. Jõukohaselt oleme toetanud Peeteli kogudust, Tartu Kristlikku Noortekodu, Eidapere õpilaskodu, Eesti Suurperede Seltsi, Eesti Gaidide Liidu ja Eesti Skautide Ühingu Sihtasutuse pingutusi noorte tegevuse arendamiseks. Lisaks stipendiumidele doktorandidele ja magistrandidele, noortele arstidele täienduskoolitusteks välismaal, oleme toetanud lastekodude kasvandikke, kes on edukalt sooritanud abituuriumi ja vastu võetud ülikooli.
Kui leiame midagi, mis on n.ö. kahe silma vahele jäänud, püüame olla toeks. Näiteks rahvusvaheline õigus, mis on väikeriikide enesekaitse vahend suurriikide omakasupüüdliku võimutsemise vastu.
Soosimaks rahvusvahelise õiguse uurimist ja õpetamist, muretses Fond Tartu Ülikoolile põhilise rahvusvahelise õiguse raamatukogu, mille täiendamine jätkub.
Fondi siht on rakendada eestlaste head mõtted ja hea tahe Eesti arengu heaks.
Suur tänu teie ettepanekute ja toetuste eest!
